I have the Q501LA model laptop. I am sorry for starting out on a negative note here, but I stupidly upgraded to Windows 10 like so many did without waiting several months to a year for it to be fully tested and fixed (wishful thinking?). My fault. I wish I hadn't upgraded. Windows 8 was a nightmare, and now Windows 10 is a train wreck after the nightmare. You all remember Windows Me? FAR superior to 8 and 10. Now that is bad! Forgive my rant. I apologize.
Ok, so I installed the most recent ASUS ATK and Smart Gesture drivers, but to no avail. All my hotkeys work except backlit keyboard and mousepad. I chatted with ASUS and they recommended I go back to Windows 8.1. You know a company is out of ideas and/or options when they thrown in the towel and tell you to basically go back to a bad OS or deal with it. Tells me they have no plans in fixing the issue or getting with Microsoft to collectively think something up. Other people are having this issue and I am at a loss here. Why is this one little hotkey not working? Well, two, actually. Mousepad on/off and backlit keyboard dimmer and brightener. I really miss this feature, especially when I am typing at night. I had to resort to buying a USB snakelight to use but that only lights up one area.
If anyone has a fix, please share? It is really frustrating. And I do not like Windows 10 at all. I wish I could go back to Windows 7, because that OS worked awesomely. But Microsoft doesn't support it any longer and I was told that many of my computer features may not work especially since it has a touch screen. I have a Windows 7 disc floating around with a valid key but I cannot use it. Wish Microsoft would just support Windows 7 and enhance it with some of these useless features like tiles and all the other garbage I never use instead of doing away with what works and what the community loves the most. XP and 7 are the best OS'. What happened to the creative team? It's like they took a perpetual vacation and never returned.
