Game Modes[edit]

Planetary Annihilation takes strategy gaming to a never-before-seen scale - and gives players powerful tools to control the action. Blow up everything, anywhere; dominate with punishing spacecraft, robots, and other futuristic machines of war.

There are three basic game modes - Galatic War - a single player campaign, AI Skirmish, and Multiplayer. The easiest way to learn the game is to start with AI Skirmish which is similar to multiplayer matches, except the player is battling AI rather than real players.

AI Skirmish[edit]

To start an AI Skirmish, select 'Single Player' from the menu, then select AI Skirmish. Under slot 2, select 'Add AI' then wait for the 'Start Game' button to become active at the bottom of the screen once the game is done 'Building Planets'.

Next it's time to select a spawning location. Zoom in (mouse wheel) on the planet with the '1' and '2' on it, and choose which location to spawn in. Pick the one with the most green dots nearby and mouse click in it, then wait for your commander to land there.

Commanders - Commanders are the player's 'king pieces' per say - the goal is to eliminate the other player's commander. Do this and the game is won. If your commander is defeated, the game is lost.

The commander is powerful and can build quickly, so make use of him throughout the game, but be sure not to send him too far from other defenses, lest he get attacked and overwhelmed.

Resources - Once the commander is in place, it's time to use him to start building. The game's economy runs on two main resources - Energy and Metal, which are represented by the bars on the top of the screen (metal on the left, energy on the right). Both items are necessary to build up an army, and having too little of either will slow a player down considerably. If both bars are full and efficiency is high (the percentage in the center between the bars), then there's nothing to worry about, but if they are low, then Energy Plants and/or Metal Extractors need to be built.

If a player is currently producing more energy or metal than they can use, they will hear a message that more storage is needed. Ignoring this message won't slow the player down, but building Energy Storage or Metal Storage units will keep the excess from going to waste and make it available to the player for increased production.

Building - The first step should probably be to build a Bot Factory or a Vehicle Factory. Select the Commander (click on him, or ALT C) to bring up a menu of the things he can build. Factories are on the left side. Choose one of the factories then choose where to place it (if it shows white, it can be placed, if it shows red, it needs to go elsewhere), then watch him build it. Once the factory is built, set the Commander to another task - have him build an Energy Plant (on the right side of the build menu), or Metal Exatractors. Metal Extractors can only be placed on the green dots on the planet. Choose the nearest one.

Building Multiple Items with the Commander or Fabricators: To set the Commander or a Fabrication unit or units to automatically building multiple items, select the item to build, then hold the left mouse button and drag. If it's metal extractors, it will create a circle and the commander or fabricators will place them on any green dots within the circle. If it is other items, it will show multiples of them evenly spaced as far as the mouse drags.

Next select the factory to bring up the menu of items that it can build. Each factory can build at least one type of Fabrication Unit - these are units that can be used to build other units; so a vehicle, bot, plane, or ship that can be used to build more factories, turrets, metal extractors, etc..Select the fabrication unit and click it repeatedly to set the factory to building a handful of them.

As the fabrication units become available, select them and set them to building more items. Metal Extractors and energy plants should be a priority, and probably at least one more factory at this point.

When zoomed out, fabricators will be represented by a '+' sign. Multiple fabricators can be selected at once, and will work together to build units. The more fabricators working on one unit, the faster it will be built. Press 'F' to select all idle fabricators.

Defenses[edit]

Once there are a few factories going, and enough energy plants and metal extractors to support them, make sure to build some defenses around the perimeter, using the items in the 'combat' section of the Commander and Fabrication Units' build menus. Each type of item will defend against different types of attacks - land, air, or naval - so make sure to have a variety to cover the bases (only worry about naval attacks if there is water nearby).

Offensive Units[edit]

Now begin using the factories to build up troops. In addition to attacking the enemy's structures and Commander, the player's troops will need to be able to defend against land, air, and possibly sea attacks, so pay attention to what each type of combat unit does, and make sure all bases are covered with a variety of unit types.

Factories can be set to build continuously by choosing an item (or items) to build, then clicking on the arrow on the right hand side toolbar, near the bottom, and selecting the loop. All factories can be selected by pressing 'Shift F1' or just idle factories by pressing 'Shift F2'. These will bring up multiple build menus at once for quick selections.

Finding the Enemy[edit]

The key to winning the game is finding and destroying the enemy commander. There are air and land vehicles such as the Firefly (air) and the Skitter (land) that can be used to scout for enemies, and radar units can also be set up to detect approaching enemies. Troops can also be sent out to find and destroy enemies and enemy structures.

Once enemy structures, units, or the Commander have been located, send troops out to attack. Destroying the enemy's Energy Plants, Metal Extractors, and Factories will slow them down and make it harder for them to produce troops, so don't hesitate to go after them.
